Do you mistake your weakness for strength?

Are you generous with money, or just careless?
Are you donating to help, or to feel superior?
Are you picking your battles, or do you lack the courage to speak up?
Are you honest, or selectively rude?
Are you clever or insecure?
Are you putting in extra hours at work because it is really needed, or to escape other responsibilities?
Are you sacrificing for the cause, or for the glory of martyrdom?
Are you reading out of curiosity or to feel intellectual?
Are you pursuing knowledge to know or to avoid action?
Are you caring or controlling?
Are you giving people their space, or just being removed from them?

Do you really know you?

Obvious weaknesses are less harmful. They at least lend us opportunities for repair. It is the ones that we mistake to be strengths that wreak havoc before they are caught. Even worse, most of us will never manage to catch them all, and will go to our graves wondering "Why was the world ungrateful to me?"

The first principle is that you must not fool yourself and you are the easiest person to fool - Richard P. Feynman
